Capture Your 365 \ Digital Scrapbooking Resources

Hey Scrappers! Do you ever feel like you are taking the same photos over and over?  Do you hesitate to get out your camera wondering what you’ll photograph?  The best way to improve your photography is to TAKE MORE PHOTOS.  But take photos of what?  I love Katrina Kennedy’s monthly photo lists.

Have you heard of Katrina’s “Capture Your 365?” I was able to do a walking tour with her at digi-polooza in Las Vegas this year. It was so worth it! I wanted to pass on some of her ideas about taking a picture every day. Here’s a list of things to know ahead of time.

  • I will take duplicate photos. I will repeat some of the photos from last year, but nothing will really be the same. It is a new year. I am different. The items and angles and moments and memory surrounding them will be different.
  • I will have some bad photos. Without a doubt I will have days with blurry photos, underexposed photos, and photos I don’t care that much about. They reflect life. As my life is not always perfect or balanced, neither will my photos be.
  • I will have a couple of photos that stand out from the rest. They will be the photos that shine. They will be the photos I place on my walls in frames and print for family. I’ll be happy if I have two that fit this description. That is the way this project works for me.
  • I will contemplate quitting somewhere along the way. I can expect to feel that urge toward the end of January when the newness has worn off a bit and we get back to the daily grind of life. I might want to give up again in July when the light is bright in the middle of the day. October, typically my busiest month of the year, will be difficult as well.
  • I will keep going. I will trudge through the dark times because I love this project. Well, frankly, I don’t know how to stop. Seriously. I don’t. And that is okay.
  • My photography will improve. I’ll learn something more about my camera, about exposure, about composition. I’ll see something in a way I didn’t before. My photos will get better. In small amounts, but they will improve.
  • I will meet new people. People are always my favorite part of the project. Connecting. Seeing others lives through their daily photos. Knowing we are alike and different in so many small ways.

So without further delay, here is her list of May photo ideas. Want to receive a daily reminder prompt? It’s just to the right of the May photo idea list. Just enter your e-mail address and you’ll be hooked.

PS.  I’m taking her “Your kids Captured Through the Lens” Class.  I took it a couple years ago, but I think doing the homework again will help me continue to improve.  I’ll be sure to share the results.

Kid Interviews | Digital Scrapbooking Words on Wednesday

Hey Everyone! Chelle’s Aunt Sari here. Today we’re talking about kid interviews. They say the funniest things– and their answers change over time. So ask and ask and ask & then scrap & scrap & scrap. There are a few websites that give you interview ideas. Lots of them are related to birthdays–which is a great reminder to do it every year. Another fun thing is so ask them about an upcoming holiday, or their school or other things, well, like Memorial Day. What happens the day after? What happens to all the flowers? Which headstone is their favorite one? Maybe they like the really old ones that you can barely see the writing on, or the new, modern ones with a picture of the deceased? Or those really ornate ones that are for prominent citizens.

I found some great “lists” of questions:

Here’s a couple of other questions I thought were funny.

  • What holiday would you invent to get a day off school?
  • What is your weirdest relative like?

Just ASK!! Here’s some ideas from the Creative Team:

First up we have Stefanie. She asked each person in the family about Valentine’s Day.

Next up is Mary with an interview of her 4-year old, Clark.

Our last layout is from Kayla and her daughter, Megan.

Wondering what kits/products the team used? Stefanie used My Sweet Valentine, Mary used Celebrate, and Kayla used Happy.

Everyone have a great week! Be Back Soon!

Back 2 School | DIgital Scrapbooking Classics

It’s graduation time! Hooray for the end of a school year and the beginning of new opportunities! I have just returned from my daughter’s college graduation, and I have begun the process of editing my photos from the big event because I really need to use my digital scrapbooking skills to show my love to her. My daughter even lamented the fact that she has lots of photos on social media sites but very few photos in print, so I am going to help her remedy that situation. I am looking at Chelle’s Back2School kit to help me with that project. It’s one of her classics, and although you might think of it for the beginning of school, I think it will be perfect for graduation photos, as well. Roxana thought so, too, and she made this marvelous double page spread of her child’s kindergarten graduation. I love that school bus and the different alphas used for the large title. The various buttons and clips used to “stick” the journal strips to the page really emphasize that this indeed was a tactile learning environment, full of wonderful memories.42-43-graduation-webRoxana

Melissa used the kit to commemorate her son’s 2nd grade year in school. The cluster of school elements – the locker, ruler, pencil, composition notebook, and backpack  – are appropriate here for a young child but would also work on a page for a high school student, as well. Look at his sweet smile! Grade-2Melissa

The primary colors in the kit make it coordinate with many of our daily pictures as well as school photos. Karen made a beautiful page about her cat Reggie, and the bright, bold colors make me think of many happy times I’m sure she had with her fur baby. Her large photo blend on the grid paper is outstanding, and the cluster of paper pieces under the smaller photo draw my eye to his sweet, peaceful face. Reggie2Karen

Chelle Scraps | 5.6.12

Woot! I love interNational Scrapbook Day! (Well, I enjoy the whole weekend…) It’s been a busy weekend: I’m hosting a challenge at Scrap Orchard, giving away an i-skin, & today is the last day of my $1 sale at ScrapOrchard.

I did manage to finish up one double layout today. I can’t believe how rusty I am. LOL!

It reminded me of one of my favorite reasons I love digi-scrapping. I didn’t have the perfect colored papers & ribbons & alpha to “go with” my little guy’s clothing. But with a quick move of the hue-sat slider, everything went together perfectly!

Be sure you complete the challenge, enter to win the skin, & shop the sale!
