Capture Your 365 Idea List | Digital Scrapbooking Resources

Hello! Today I get to remind you about Katrina Kennedy’s Project 365. I went to her website and found some great information to share.  Not only does she give us a monthly list, she  chooses 4 camera features to focus on each week. This week it’s light, aperture, shutter speed, & point of view.

She starts by printing out her October list! or downloads it to her smartphone. There is no wrong way to use the list. Here are a few things she mentioned:

  • I love to have a printed hard copy. I like how tangible and real it becomes then. Perhaps that is indicative of my age, born into the paper culture. Maybe not. I look at it each morning and let it set my focus for the day.
  • I don’t necessarily seek out the prompt for my photo, but I let it guide my creativity. Consider the prompt PLAID. I honestly thought there was no plaid in my house. I know there is none in my wardrobe. In my plaid-less stupor, we left the house the morning of the prompt with PLAID, emblazoned across my thoughts. And then I began to see it. It popped up at me in the strangest of places. There was the woman with the plaid purse perched on the chair at Capitol Dog, our local spot for vegan hotdogs. I didn’t photograph it, but I thought about all of the ways I could.
  • There was the little boy who bounced out of the house with plaid shorts on. Once again, I didn’t photograph him or his shorts, but I thought about ways that I could. And then I came home. I’d taken many others shots throughout the day. And from those, one was destined to be my photo of the day. None are plaid, but they were inspired by plaid. Inspired because I set out into the world ready to see. Ready to scavenge something that I might not have otherwise been looking for!

You know how that happens. You buy a red car and you suddenly see them everywhere. Someone mentions a restaurant and then suddenly you see ads for it everywhere. That is how the prompt list works. Just gets you thinking and seeing so that suddenly everything around you has the potential to be your photo of the day on this day. And then as you type you’ll realize  you do have a plaid thing in your life. Every day your husband and your son put on button up short sleeved shirts. Friends call them, “Shea shirts,” because he wears them so often. And yep, they are plaid. I can see them hanging in the closet from where I sit at this very moment. Funny how inspiration can be right in front of you!

Diana made this comment:

I love things in print as well. I also really appreciate that you explained how you use the list. I hadn’t thought of simply looking for items in the prompt and then imagining how I would photograph them — that makes such sense, particularly since we can’t always simply take photographs of other people’s children or their articles of clothing, for instance. Now I don’t have to feel that I’ve “missed out” when there is another way to think of the prompt word.

I think this an intriguing idea. I don’t have a camera, but I can see photo opportunities. I can always use a “word” to think about during the day at my real job. I’m gonna do it, I’m gonna give it a try! Join me…. Katrina will even send you a daily inspiration e-mails. Get on her list. How could you use an idea list? What could you capture?

Perfect Pairs: Oh Snap! & Main Street | Digital Scrapbooking Kit Combinations

Hello Everyone! This week we challenged the CT members to combine 2 of Chelle’s kits: Oh Snap! & Main Street Kits. Let me show you the kits first, and then I’ll show you the LOs.

First up is Melissa N who shows us “Changes.” Love the then and now of her children at the same location, several years apart, and the clusters she built are just perfect!

Next we have Lynette who uses shows us the main street at one of her travel destinations on her cruise. I bet we all have photos that we could scrap in a similar fashion. A cityscape if you will.

In our final LO, Carol shows us the Main Street where she used to live in Iowa. What a great idea! Each of us memories where we used to live. Carol’s LO made me think of main street’s in ghost towns, pioneer villages, or even restored main streets. We’ve got a picture of several of my grandparent’s and great-grandparents pioneer homes. Some have been renovated and we could do similar LOs like Carol’s.

Hope these inspire you to use Main Street Mini and the Traveler Bundle for some of your LO’s.

Hugs!

Tea For Two Playdate | Digital Scrapbooking Inspiration

Hello Friends!
What a lovely kit Chelle made this week. A beautiful and lovely memory of times present and times past. Chelle’s Great Grandmother Pitcher (my grandmother) collected tea cups & saucers and had them placed about her house. A few years before she died, she gave each of her granddaughters one from her collection. This kit helps me travel back in time so Sunday afternoons at 4pm where we all gathered each to visit with Grandma Pitcher and our Aunts and cousins. You can choose the Tea for Two Bundle or pick them up individually: Tea for Two, Tea for Two Word Art, Tea For Two Ginghams, Tea for Two Freebie, & CU Curled Paper Flowers.
For our CU Friends, Chelle gives us CU Curled Paper Flowers:
Did you hear about Creative Club Digi Designer Edition’s Q&A chat this month? We have a copywrite & patent attorney guesting as our speaker. He’ll be talking about the legalities involved in digi-designing. It’s on Thursday, September 20th at 7pm MST. Spread the news! Tell all our designer friends.

Back 2 School Ideas | Digital Scrapbooking Resources

Hey Everyone! The other day I came across one of my high school photo ID cards. Wow! Was I ever really that young, skinny & awkward? Let me start this story by saying and “Griffin/Thompson” eyebrows are big and thick. I literally could put a 1/2″ curler in my Dad’s eyebrows. Imagine this, my mostly bald Father asleep in the recliner during a semi-annual TV church meeting. To keep my quiet, Dad would let me “curl” his hair. I always wanted to put the curlers in his eyebrows. How I got away with “wetting” his eyebrows with a comb & putting in rollers, is beyond me now. I’d only get cussed if I let the cold water run down his neck! I never did get to curl his eyebrows. LOL

I digress. The day I needed to go register for sophomore year, I decided I had to get my eyebrows done. I found someone who could do it and went and had them “done.” The beautician was a “very-thin-one-line” eyebrow person. I didn’t know this. This was a DRA-AA-STIC change for me. Not to mention that the wax was too hot and she burned my skin around my eyebrows. They were glowing red. I’ll let you imagine how lovely that picture turned out. The funniest was when my Mom (Chelle’s grandmother) saw me, she told me I looked like a surprised stink bug! That really boosted my confidence. I was extremely shy back then. Not so much now! LOL

The other day Chelle and I were talking about Back 2 School as a great photo opportunity. If you take the same photo in the same place year after year, you’ll have a visual growth chart. There are lots of details you can capture each year.  Chelle said, “I love how the clothes & hairstyles my daughters choose for their first day show how styles change.” Start a tradition now!

Let me show you what the CT made for us.

Unlikely Pairs: Vrooom! & Traveler | Digital Scrapbooking Kit Combinations

Hey! Hope you are having a great day! Utah is in the center of a ton of fires in the surrounding states and some of our own. Cache Valley, were Chelle & I live, has been pretty smoky the last few days–which got me thinking about Vrooom! & Traveler and our ancestors who helped settle the American West. I wonder if they had wildfires and how they would have coped with it. Perhaps, a neckerchief dunked in water and tied over the mouth & nose? I can’t imagine how badly their eyes would have watered from the smoke.

We’re lucky to have the Bonneville Salt Flats & Speedway available for our inner VROOOM here in Utah.  Traveler makes me think of  vintage trains & the Golden Spike National Park where the Union & Central Railroads met in 1869 here in Utah. This week we challenged the CT to make a LO that incorporated Vrooom & Traveler. Let me show you what Jenn J & Ophelia came up with. Thank you ladies, they are really moving! LOL Bad pun! Where has your mind ventured off to as you look at these LOs & Chelle’s stuff? I bet you have a few ideas zooming along in your brain. So scrap ’em now! Ok Enough with the bad puns!

8.15 Words On Wednesday: Then & Now | Digital Scrapbooking Words on Wednesday

Howdy! This month one of the challenges we gave the creative team was to create a then and now LO. I missed out on a perfect photo opportunity this last week. My little nephew Zion (age 2 1/2) got home from church and everyone went to change… except Zion. My brother rounded the corner into the kitchen just in time to catch Zion poking his finger in the last roll and deflating it. He saw his Dad and grinned from ear to ear and said, “I did it! I did it!” He was so proud of himself. I can never resist the “I’m-So-Cute-A-Boy-Smile.” His Mom makes rolls of some sort 3 of 4 times a week… so I’m sure he has wanted to “do it” before. He didn’t even get in trouble, they just all laughed. They did have dinner a little late…. after the rolls had a chance to rise again. LOL! Aunts who are 3 hours away don’t usually get “those” pictures. I wanted to share the idea because it was fun! A pan of “before” and “after” rolls with a cute little blonde-haired boy. What ideas do you think of with a then & now theme?
The ladies amazed me again. First up is Kassie showing us a delightful LO of her two girl’s wearing the same dress about 3 years apart. Polka dots make everyone smile & that headband is sooo darn cute. It’s a very simple design with great white spacing,  and the journaling is sweet. It’s a lovely timeless design. Makes me wonder if she’ll keep the dress and do the layout again with her first granddaughter. I just want to pick them up off the page and hugs those little darlings! Love the stitching!

Kassie

Next up is Kayla. I love this idea. One of my niece-in-law’s wanted to decorate her home with pictures of her grandparents and my grandparent’s homes and some of the homes my family lived in before I was born. My sister, Arlene, took pictures of the houses (some while she was in high school) and a fellow elementary teacher painted the houses. (Arlene bought a photocopy of the paintings so that her siblings could each have those pictures. Chelle might have them too.) My Grandma Pitcher had a pink house, My Grandma Griffin’s was white. The home I grew up in was white with green trim. Now that all of the houses have changed ownership and colors, it’s nice to walk around my apartment and see those images from my childhood and youth. Look at what Kayla designed.

Kayla

I saw a story on the TODAY show just this morning about a group of 5 guys who took a picture of themselves in high school. Somewhere along the passage of years, they kept re-enacting that picture and updating it. They have redone that same picture several times through the years. I believe they do it ever 5 years. Shannon has one of her favorite pictures of her girls from 7 years ago and then a more recent picture. What a wonderful way to update and compare her girl’s. I’m sure this design will be a favorite of her girl’s for many years to come.

Shannon

Heather used the ivy growth as a marker for the passage of time at a baseball stadium since it opened in 2004. I think we all use pictures or something physical to help us mark the highlights of our lives. How many of us have a wall where we have pencil lines showing a child’s name and date marking the passage of time and growth?

Heather

Let me give you a wrap-up of the products the ladies used.

Hope we gave you lots of ideas for Then & Now.
Hugs!
