Miniaturizing Photos | Digital Scrapbooking Tutorials

Hi everyone… this is a photo tutorial. :) It’s Jenn, aka jk703 here to share a fun and maybe new to you technique!  Hope you like it!

Step 1:  Open your photo in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Save as a new file. This way the original will be available if you need it.

Step 2: Choose the Quick Mask Mode. It is the little box with a circle under the Foreground and Background Color boxes.

Step 3: Choose the Gradient Tool. On the sub menu, click on the reflective gradient (3rd box), and also make sure that Reverse is checked. You can use any of these that fit your picture though.

Step 4:  Select the part of the photo that will be the miniaturized portion. To do this, click, and drag up. Let go when you feel you have a good space that will be mini. After I let go, my image gets the red gradient mask. The portion that doesn’t have as much red will not be blurred as much.

Step 5:  Click the Quick Mask Mode to turn off the red, and you will see marching ants marching on your photo.

Step 6:  Click on Filter > Blur > Lens Blur. A large screen will pop up, showing all the options that you can play with. When doing this type of photo, I used the Invert and Radius (below). Play with them, and see what you like for your photo.

Here is what my photo looks like now:

Looks pretty cool, yet still shows off that wonderful island!  Here is some more layouts and photo examples by Jennifer/jmljensen and  Erica/Stanworth:

Well, a quick tutorial to add a “little” miniaturizing to your photos!  Hope you learned something new!

Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!

Gallery Standouts | Digital Scrapbooking Inspiration

Hey everyone! Chelle’s Aunt Sari here to show you some great new LOs using Chelle’s Creations. I have so much fun going through the gallery at Scrap Orchard. I am always so amazed at your creativity. I love to see the non-traditional uses of Chelle’s stuff. Let me show you what I found. First up is LauraCW using Ladybug Hugs.

Next we have Kristi8004 using On The Water and Soaked Alpha.

Spic-n-Span | Digital Scrapbooking Classics

Laundry is that chore that is never finished. Wash, dry, iron, fold, clean, sweep, then do it all over again. If you are participating in a Project 365 this year, you have probably taken a picture of the laundry room already. Chelle has created the perfect digital scrapbooking kit to accessorize your pages called Spic-n-Span.  Take photos of your children doing chores, or of a house renovation (lots of cleaning required there!), or you can even make a chore chart from the elements in the kit. Her CT has been playing with the kit to show you a few possibilities.

First, Patty has some photos of her new bathroom all clean and ready for use. I love how she used the bubbles to float over the whole page, and I love that title made from the green and blue alphas. Patty is a talented scrapper who has been a guest member of the CT for the past few months, and we have loved seeing her pages with Chelle’s kits.Patty_SpicNSpan

Next, Ronnie made a photo-less layout and wrote about her observations and feeling about chores and the evolution of responsibilities for cleaning in our homes. I hope you will read it, as it is very well written. At the end, she wonders whether robots might take over. I would love for some of my house chores to be taken over by machines.aA Free 44 Observations Template

Next, Jenn also made a photo-less page with this kit and wrote about how she has become a master procrastinator with chores. I learned that Jenn and I have a lot in common! And, I love her clustering on the page with the leaves and flowers behind the note-card journal spots. I think I would much rather make a pretty scrapbook page about cleaning house than actually clean my house. masterprocrastinatorJennS

Finally, Melissa made a page about her little boy helping to clean the house. Her blended photo on the page is beautiful, and the way she has the photo of Dylan on the right layered under the laundry basket so that he looks like he is sitting in the basket is too cute for words. It reminds me of my own children enjoying laundry days because they enjoyed pushing each other around in the laundry basket. Mommas-HelperMelissa

The colors in the kit are peaceful and calming, and I can’t believe I’m typing this, but I am actually inspired to clean something now so that I can take a picture of it and then use this kit to scrapbook about it. (I may have a slight addiction to digital scrapbooking). But, I am also reminded that I would love to have memories recorded of the fun times I have had with my children in doing the necessary chores at home.

I’ll leave you with a closer look at the kit in the market (the image is linked) because I now feel the need to do laundry (with my camera close by).

Chelle Scraps 7.29

I scrapped! Ok, technically I scrap nearly every week, but most of my layouts are for a special secret project, so I can’t show them. But this week I can!
I couldn’t resist the sunny sweetness of the Ladybug Hugs kit. I’ve scrapped these pics before (ok…3 times total) but they are some of my favorite pics of my oldest dd. The ladybug kit reminds me of her sunny, happy disposition.

She used to LOVE going to this petting zoo. We would put a quarter in the “pellet dispenser” then put the pellets on the footrest on her stroller. The goats couldn’t resist coming up to nibble at the food which meant they were face to face with her.  She loved to see them…occasionally she’d grab their horns and try to kiss them.  What a happy little sweetheart!  The inspiration for this fun kit:

Take some time to scrap this week.  You’ll love it.
