Beat the Heat | Digital Scrapbooking Classics

Wow, it is HOT in the south suddenly! The extreme heat and humidity has me scrambling to find ways to beat it and cool off. Speaking of which, Chelle has an adorable digital scrapbooking kit perfect for hot weather activities called Beat the Heat. It is loaded with ice creams and other frozen treats but without all the calories and mess! Her creative team members have made a couple of great pages to give you a taste for this great kit and its word art package.

First, Leslie had some delicious photos of her boys and her friend Valerie eating at the Denville Dairy, a restaurant in New Jersey famous for its home made ice creams. Her use of the Neapolitan colors from the kit scream ice cream, and the little touches of blue she used form a perfect visual triangle to guide a reader’s eyes around the page. I love her use of the conversation bubble for her journal spot.2011-Denville-Dairy

Mel chose to use  the brighter colors in the kit, and look how different her page is from Leslie’s! Isn’t this kit versatile? I love how Mel has used a pink flower and frame for her daughter’s picture; it really brings out the pink in her cheeks. I also love the way she split the words of the title and has them going up and down opposite sides of the page.  Dippin-Dots

Did you notice the words on sticks on Mel’s page? I love those, and I want to show you a closer look of those as well as the preview of the kit in the market. In case you don’t have this classic kit yet, the images are linked to the market. cc_beatheat_wordstix

Friday Freebie! Summer Lovin’ | Digital Scrapbooking Freebies

Are you gearing up for Summer at your house?  We are at mine!  May is jammed packed with all the end of the school year activities and I seem to be running kids here and there and can’t wait for Summer Vacation to start.  I long for the days of sleeping in, playing with the kids and enjoying some fresh picked strawberries.  Nothing tastes better than a handful of fresh strawberries on a lazy summer day, so I decided to whip up a little strawberry cluster using Chelle’s Creations’ Summer Lovin’ kit for today’s freebie.

Then & Now | Digital Scrapbooking Resources

Hello Friends! Have I got a great idea for you this week? Choose a favorite picture or layout and re-enact it.

  • You can do the same child in the same pose.
  • Ask a child the same questions year after year.
  • A young couple’s wedding photo contrasted with a picture of “today’s family.
  • A pregnant Mom holding her newborn contrasted with the newborn holding Mom
  • Here in Utah, we have Utah State University. On campus, there is a “famous” A-bench. On Homecoming Eve, if you kiss your partner on the “A”, you become a “True Aggie.” How about college sweethearts becoming “True Aggies,” contrasted with 25 years later, when they once again share the passion only a “True Aggie” can show.

Look how Helen (winipeg1) did her layout.  Isn’t her little girl adorable?

Recreate the same photo year’s later. My Nephew, Chelle’s brother, got married in 1998. The little kids were a little bored while waiting for the next activity. So they all sat down on the same bench. 15 years pass by. Why not recreate the photo’s? They are hilarious! Chelle told me they did around 12 different re-enactments. I know these teenagers and I can only imagine the laughter going on as they snapped each memory again. These layouts will become your favorite digital scrapbooking layouts of all time. They may not remember the original photo, but I bet they’ll ALL remember the reenactment.

Last is my favorite photo. Big brother Daniel is holding Baby Lincoln. Fast forward about 15 years, and Baby Lincoln is too big for Big Brother Daniel’s lap. Daniel has to use both hands to hold Lincoln.

Every time, I look at these pictures, I laugh. What could be a greater reward to a digital scrapbooking aficionado, than knowing your efforts will create smiles (and tears) for generations to come. I know you must have several ideas of how you can use this idea in your scrapbooking. Go for it!

Scrap Skills: Using Spritzers

Spray paints and spritzers are all the rage in card making and traditional scrapbooking right now, and they are super easy to use in digital scrapbooking. In fact, they are far less messy in digital, and they look the same or better than traditional materials because they are easier to control. Chelle’s Creative team has been busy making some pages  that include spritzer elements, and I know you’ll be inspired by them.

First, Jenny has made a page with her photos of her children making caramel apples. She used the Apple of My Eye {bundle} which includes the spritzers and that cute buttoned alpha on her page. The spritzers give a hint of the fun mess involved with the caramel apple making without actually making more mess. It’s the best of both worlds! 19171Jenny

Next, Kairyn has made a double page spread of her Easter photos, and she has used Chelle’s newest Easter kit Hippity Hop Hop. It doesn’t include spritzers, so she has used Chelle’s CU Spritzers with the kit. The CU spritzers are a great value as they can be used with every kit you own, and they are a great way to stretch your stash. I’ll show you Kairyn’s double page first, and then you’ll see each side separately so you can better appreciate the details. 2013-03-31BasketHunt-2pg_zps29d7d1842013-03-31BasketHunt-L2013-03-31BasketHunt-R

Kassie also used Chelle’s CU Spritzers to stretch her stash. She used them with E-I-E-I-O. The spritzers add dimension and texture to that white background paper without the mess of actual paint. santaanazoogeese_zps9ccf7804

I hope you are inspired to grab some digital paint and start spritzing your layouts. If you don’t own Chelle’s CU Spritzers, you can pick them up in the market and use them to stretch any kit you already own to make it have a whole new look. The download includes 10 different png files and 1 abr file. cc_CU_spritzers_preview 2 post

Unlikely Pairs: Choose The Right & Family Tree | Digital Scrapbooking Kit Combinations

Hello Everyone! It’s a beautiful day here in Utah today. This month for unlikely kit combinations, we challenged our CT to use Choose The Right {Bundle} & Family Tree. Let me show you these fabulous layouts.

First up is Karen. I love the use of lace and butterflies and the wood as the border. Isn’t that the best-ever smile from the Grandson?

Karen (karen32) She used CTR Trek & Family Tree

Next we have Carol (Iowan). I love the red stitching around the border of the blue square. It pulls me into the layout and the stars. Isn’t “generations of fun” a great title? There’s a grandson who loves his Grandpa.

Carol (Iowan) She used CTR Bundle & Family Tree

Last we have Debbie (rdjrneace) and her “We are Family” layout. She’s pulled in the oranges of Family Tree with the lighter green colors of Choose The Right {Eternal}. That lovely blue flower draw my eye to the Dad & sons in the picture.

Debbie (rdjrneace) She used CTR Eternal & Eternal Quickies, Family Tree & Family Tree Wordart

Here are the links to the Choose The Right Bundle and Family Tree.

Lots of fun hours of creativity here using these 2 kits. Use Make A Missionary to make your very own grandparents. Use Choose the Right {Trek} for those family outdoor adventures. Choose the Right (Baptism} for those important church events for you child. Choose the Right {Eternity} helps create a more dainty layout. Use Family Tree for those pages using ancestors.
